Noted trial lawyer
Jeffrey M. Goldberg of the Jeffrey M. Goldberg Law
Offices in Chicago was elected President of The TLPJ
Foundation on July 5, 2004 at the organization’s 22nd
annual membership meeting in Boston. The TLPJ Foundation is
the nonprofit parent of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice
(TLPJ), the national public interest law firm dedicated to
using trial lawyers’ skills and resources to advance the
public good.
“Jeff Goldberg is an extremely
talented, dedicated, and committed to advancing the public
interest,” said outgoing TLPJ Foundation President J. Gary
Gwilliam of Gwilliam, Ivary, Chiosso, Cavalli & Brewer in
Oakland, California. “We are thrilled to have him lead
us.”
An accomplished trial lawyer, Mr.
Goldberg has handled major cases in many areas of consumer
protection law, including medical malpractice, products
liability, and personal injury. His commitment to service in
the trial bar extends over 30 years. He received his J.D.
from The John Marshall Law School in 1974, served as a law
clerk for Justice Francis Lorenz of the Illinois Appellate
Court, and as an instructor at The John Marshall Law
School. Mr. Goldberg serves on the Board of Directors of
the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Association
of Trial Lawyers of America’s Birth Trauma Litigation Group.
He is also on the Executive Board of The Society of Trial
Lawyers. In addition, Mr. Goldberg is a director of the
Center for Disability and Elder Law, a founding member of
the Institute for Injury Reduction, and a member of the
Brain Injury Association of Illinois.
Mr. Goldberg has been an
enthusiastic supporter of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice
for over 13 years and a TLPJ Foundation Board member since
1996. He was a finalist for the Trial Lawyer of the Year
Award in 1998 for his outstanding public interest
achievements as a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers
Association Constitutional Challenge Committee, which won a
major victory for Illinois citizens and created an important
precedent for injury victims nationwide by getting Illinois’
Tort Reform Act struck down as unconstitutional.
Three other Illinois attorneys
have served as President of The TLPJ Foundation:

Also at the July 5 annual
meeting, four other attorneys were elected as new TLPJ
Foundation officers: President-Elect Thomas M. Dempsey
of The Law Offices of Thomas M. Dempsey in Los Angeles; Vice
President Alan R. Brayton of Brayton Purcell in
Novato, California; Treasurer Sandra H. Robinson of
Jack Olender & Associates in Washington, D.C.; Secretary
Gerson H. Smoger of Smoger & Associates, P.C. of
Dallas, Texas and Oakland,
California.
Attorney James C. Sturdevant
of The Sturdevant Law Firm in San Francisco was newly
elected to the Executive Committee of The TLPJ Foundation.
Harry G. Deitzler of Hill, Peterson, Carper,
Bee & Deitzler in Charleston, West Virginia and Mona Lisa
Wallace of Wallace & Graham in Salisbury, North
Carolina, were re-elected to the Executive Committee.
Ten other attorneys were
also elected as new TLPJ Foundation Board members: Robert

Office in San Francisco; Michael V. Kaplen of De Caro

Two longtime TLPJ
Foundation Board members were named Emeritus Board
members in recognition of their distinguished service:
Leonard W. Schroeter of Stritmatter Kessler Whelan
Withey Coluccio in Seattle; and Stephen I. Zetterburg
of Claremont, California.
